Game Recaps

1/7/98   Cleveland Heights 5 - Rocky River 2

Heights came out strong in their first game against the Rocky River Pirates since John Malloy left the Tigers' bench to become the Pirates' head coach. This was also the first matchup between these two teams since Rocky River joined Heights' Red South Division at the beginning of the season. The Tigers dominated the first period of play as Shannon Barden and Eddie Babcox each scored to stake Heights to a 2-0 lead. The Tigers let up slightly in the second period giving up one goal, but Andrew Markus stole the momentum back with a brilliant glove save to rob Rocky River of a sure goal. Eric Aber scored a shorthanded goal on a breakaway before Shannon Barden put the game out of reach with his second goal of the game. Rocky River managed a powerplay goal in the third period but Heights' defense stood its ground and would allow no more. Doug Turner added an empty-netter, his ninth goal of the season, and Andrew Markus finished with 19 saves.
