Heights ended 2005 on a high note with an overtime win against Kent Roosevelt in the
Heights Holiday Tournament consolation game. The Tigers didn't look sharp in the first
period while Kent took an early 2-0 lead. Late in the period,
Alex Kraus made it 2-1, firing home a rebound from
Dan Bray's shot. With that boost, Heights regrouped
during intermission and came back strong in the second and third. They outshot the Rough
Riders 18-10 over the final two periods, but still had trouble putting the puck away.
Finally, with five minutes remaining in the game,
Paris Murray took a feed from
Dee Samuel and scored the game-tying goal. The Tigers
kept up the pressure and had some good chances in the final minutes, but the game went to
overtime knotted at two. It didn't take long for Heights to break the tie. Just 45 seconds
in, Jason Kelce and Paris Murray broke out in a 2-on-1
rush. Kelce's initial shot was stopped, but Murray buried the rebound to win the game.
Daley Baker earned the victory in net, stopping 19 of 21
shots and shutting Kent down for the final 40+ minutes. Kelce finished with 8 points in
the tournament to lead the team.
