Heights started the new year the same way they closed the old one, with a narrow win over
Kent Roosevelt. The Tigers built an early lead, then withstood a Kent rally in the third
to win 5-3. Jason Kelce and
Dee Samuel powered the offense, accounting for all five
goals. They each scored in the first period, then Samuel added a breakaway goal in the
second and Heights took a 3-0 lead into the final frame. Kent got on the board midway
through the third, but the Tigers answered right back. Dee Samuel put the puck on Jason
Kelce's blade as he streaked to the net to tuck in his second goal. Things got tense in
the final three minutes as Kent turned up the pressure. They scored twice to move within
4-3, but Daley Baker stifled a flurry of shots in the
last minute to seal the win. With six seconds remaining, Kelce sent a rink-long shot into
an empty net to complete his fourth career hat trick.
