Heights squeezed past the North Olmsted Eagles with a thrilling double-overtime win in
round one of the State Tournament. Jeff Houser slipped
in a rebound from a bad angle with 1:32 gone in the second overtime to end a very
exciting match. The game had been tied 1-1 with just over three minutes to play in the
third period when North Olmsted scored to take a 2-1 lead. The Tigers managed to force
overtime with a great play in the game's final seconds. With 6 seconds left, North
Olmsted won a faceoff in their own zone but Carl Rose
got to the puck in the corner and zipped a pass to
Ben Winger for a tip-in on the back door. The goal was
recorded with 0.9 seconds remaining. Ben Gaglioti was
solid throughout and picked up a well-deserved victory with 35 saves. The first goal for
Heights was tallied by Nate Hall in the second period
after North Olmsted had taken a 1-0 lead in the first. The Eagles had entered the game
as the tournament's seventh seed with a record of 21-7 on the season.
