In game three of the Thomas Worthington Holiday Classic, Heights faced the Carmel
Icehounds from suburban Indianapolis. Carmel's participation in this tournament was
essentially an accident. Due to a miscommunication, Carmel thought they were entering
a tournament against Prep teams. The Icehounds won their first two games of the
tournament (against Worthington Kilbourne and Perrysburg) by identical scores of 10-0.
Each game was stopped before reaching the third period due to a ten-goal mercy rule.
The Tigers avoided a similar fate but still lost 10-1. Heights' defense held up
reasonably well for two periods, trailing only 5-1 despite spending nearly the entire
30 minutes in the defensive zone. The lone Heights goal was recorded by
Carl Rose with an assist from
Chris Matthews. Matthews fought through a check and
centered the puck to Rose who drove home a one-timer. The Tigers' defense gradually
eroded in the third period and Carmel added five more goals. Penalties took a heavy
toll on Heights as the Icehounds scored five times on the powerplay.
