The Tigers followed two low-scoring games at the Thornton Tournament with a wild
shootout to open the Heights Holiday Tournament. The first two minutes of this game
gave a good indication of what was to follow.
Chris Matthews put Heights on top 1-0 after 19
seconds and Mentor responded to tie the score a mere 11 seconds later.
Dan Crowell then netted his second goal of the year
and the Tigers led 2-1 with less than two minutes gone in the game. Mentor took a 3-2
lead by the first intermission but both offenses would be ready for more action in the
second period. Nate Hall vaulted Heights back into
the lead with two powerplay goals in the first five minutes. After Mentor tied the
score at four, Nate Hall struck yet again to round out his first career hat trick. All
three of Hall's goals were assisted by his linemate
Jeff Houser. Carl Rose
also scored in the second period and Heights led 6-5 entering the third. Unfortunately,
the Tigers couldn't keep up the pace in the final period. Mentor outshot Heights 12-5
and scored twice to win 7-6.
