Heights faced off against Shaker for the fourth time this season in the opening round
of the Baron Cup. The first three games were each decided by a single goal, but the
Tigers' defensive play was not as strong this time around. Heights did have an early
advantage thanks to Dan Cross-Call. Cross-Call won a
faceoff in the offensive zone, stepped past the Raiders' center, and shot high inside
the far post for his third goal of the year. Shaker scored twice in the first period,
including a last-minute powerplay goal, to go ahead 2-1 at the break. In the second
period, Shaker expanded the lead to 3-1 but Kyle Barden
struck back with his fifth goal of the season. Down by one, the Tigers needed a strong
offensive third period to tie things up. Instead, they frequently turned the puck over,
missed a couple of good scoring chances, and allowed Shaker to add two insurance goals.
Ben Gaglioti started in net for Heights and made 31
saves.
