The Tigers received a large confidence boost by holding on for a 5-4 victory over
St. Edward at Winterhurst. Pat Collins gave
Heights a 1-0 lead in the first period but St. Edward would score to tie things up.
The Tigers recaptured the lead later in the first, when team captain
Andrew West notched two goals on the same shift,
converting a breakaway and then tapping in a rebound. Heights may have thought this
win was in the bag with a 3-1 lead after one period, but St. Edward was not going
to concede. The Eagles thoroughly outplayed the Tigers in the second period but were
held to just one goal. St. Edward did eventually manage the tying goal in the third
period, but Andrew West re-ignited Heights' offense. West hit the trifecta with his
third goal of the game to give the Tigers a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. Soon
after, with a boisterous group of Heights fans cheering the Tigers on,
Ben Winger tallied his first career goal to make
it a 5-3 game. Winger's goal ended up being the game-winner after St. Edward scored
a fourth goal. As is frequently the case, the Tigers were backstopped by an excellent
performance in goal. Matt Crowell earned his second
win of the season with 39 saves. This game was the Tigers' first victory over St.
Edward in exactly four years.
